Mining, Chemical & Petroleum Engineering
Who we are
The Department currently runs two (2) undergraduate academic programmes conducted by about fifty (50) academic, professional and support staff. The student enrolment is close to eight hundred (800) in both programmes. The BSc in Oil and Gas Production was a three year programme whose enrolment closed in the 2022/2023 academic year intake. It has transitioned to a four year BSc in Oil and Gas Engineering expected to begin with the 2023/2024 academic year intake. The BSc in Chemical and Process Engineering is a four year programme in its third reviewed version expected to commence in the 2023/2024 academic year intake. Other programmes expected to commence in 2023/2024 academic year include: one year postgraduate diploma in Oil and Gas Engineering; one year postgraduate diploma in Chemical and Process engineering; BSc in Mining Engineering; MSc in Oil and Gas Engineering and MSc in Chemical and Process Engineering.

BSc in Chemical and Process Engineering
The objective of the BSc in Chemical and Process Engineering programme is to produce highly competent Chemical and Process Engineers who would be able to create own industrial enterprises or be highly employable in the chemical and process industry, government and private sector within the country and world-over. Candidates are eligible for admission to this programme under any of the three entry avenues upon meeting the minimum entry requirements. The avenues are Direct Entry, Diploma Entry, and Degree Holders Entry Schemes. Among the learning outcomes for learners of this programme are to be able to:

Partnerships with Public-Private Sector
Connecting with the sectors
The Department has well-established MOUs with a few of the public-private sector, namely the Uganda Industrial Research Institute (UIRI), and China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC). Through these partnerships the parties exchange information pertaining to teaching, research and development; information related to quality and content relevant and crucial to the oil and gas; and the process industry where possible.
Our programme structures are comprehensive and cover four year training period segmented in eight semesters of 17 weeks each.
- Design and implementation of organic effluent treatment and biogas production plant at Leading Distillers (U) Ltd. Eng. Obbo Odongo and Dr. William Wanasolo
- Design and fabrication of heavy metal effluent treatment plant at an industrial complex, Nakasongola District. Eng. Obbo Odongo, Mr. Brian Nayebare and Dr. William Wanasolo
